Arcane fractals – Images and musings of my imagination
Fractals are graphic representations of mathematical equations. Therefore, without the aid of a computer to generate the graphics from the equations, these mathematical objects would remain invisible.
However, it is the “flame” fractals that I find particularly beautiful with their ethereal forms. They have the power to touch our spirit and fire the imagination.
Many of the images below are collages of pure flame fractals e.g.the stars, mist, trees etc. They took many hours to develop and were made with the program Apophysis.
Although these images were all made between the years of 2003-2007 they still have a special place in my heart. If you haven’t come across flame fractals before, I hope this is a serendipitous discovery for you.
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.
It is the source of all true art and science.
He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed. ~Einstein~
Collision in the Wormhole "Wormhole travel......it was still fairly new and accidents, whilst rare, were not unknown. Remote though they were, everyone knew the risks. Nevertheless, news of the collision between the Orion and Venutia II was still shocking."
The Astro Geologists "Attempting to collect the magma samples was fraught with danger. Only the skill of our Frenuvian pilot kept us from Oblivion's mouth. (note: I don't have any fond memories of the Sistinian Triangulate; an area of space seemingly forsaken by all the Gods. Only noteworthy for its sometimes unusual mineral and energy deposits.)"
Shelob's Inner Sanctum Shelob is a fictional character from J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium "She served none but herself, drinking the blood of Elves and Men, bloated and grown fat with endless brooding on her feasts, weaving webs of shadow; for all living things were her food and her vomit darkness." ~Tolkein~
Stairway to the stars "I had heard tales of this place and thought of them as wild exagerations. But now, being here, I can only stand and gaze in rapt awe. An interdimensional stairway........something that even the previous generation of explorers could never have imagined."
The insectiums "Like enlightened beings they arose before us. Their luminance dissolving the inky blackness of the cave."
Return to the forest On Halloween Night Where do they return, those ghosts and ghouls? To the dark spooky wood with the bottomless pools. So beware my dear friend whatever you do, don't follow such creatures or they may get you!
Vespidriel's Nest "We knew Vespidriel would favour a pocket of unstable interdimensional space within the Venutian system to make her nest. We had to exterminate it before more of her kind were born. But alas, we were too late. The babies had long since hatched!"
Mirkwood Dreaming What would a forest dream?
Vespidriel "... and there we came across Vespidriel, in all her treacherous beauty, spinning stardust into murderous webs of death."
Beyond the Asteroid Belt "After 6 long months of navigating through the great asteroid belt of Ulisia, our destination finally lay before us. Long the subject of myth and legend, the system of Tilana II, was now a reality. There was great jubilation among the crew. And happy though I was in surviving our perilous journey, I couldn't help but wonder what the future now held."
Flight From Plutonian Caves "It was a special moment watching the magestic Arwarks gracefully ascended into the night sky. Such an event only happening once in a millennia. They would not return to their caves in my lifetime (or many other lifetimes). Their destination was unknown, it being one of the great mysteries of the universe."
