It was 44 degrees Celsius (111F) on Boxing Day her

It was 44 degrees Celsius (111F) on Boxing Day here in Perth, Australia. So the best thing to do was stay home in the cool air conditioned house, create an abstract and eat left over Christmas ham and other yummy food. The abstract is heavily textured in parts on 400gsm acrylic paper. Inspired by rusty trawler hulls.

It’s been a while. Life got busy but all in a good way including a most unexpected trip to Christmas Island (Indian Ocean) which is an an Australian territory. Forever grateful that for the past 9 months there has been no community transmission of COVID here in Western Australia and CI has never had it so that means we have a special travel bubble. Tonight, I’m working with acrylic paint on an experimental piece that will ultimately be a collage.

Pasting this fine acid free tissue can be a bit challenging. Not too many chances to reposition a piece as it can disintegrate when re-lifting and larger pieces actually stretch. Still love using it though.

This is an 8” x 10” collage made with delicate tissue that I have painted and mono printed. Inspiration once again was derived from a Japanese textile called Boro. Boro are reworked or repaired textiles that have been pieced, patched and stitched together in order to extend their use. The Japanese term "Boroboro", means something tattered or repaired.
